hands. Rheumatoid arthritis was diagnosed and she was treated with phenylbutazone, indomethacin suppositories, and gold injections. A tense swelling developed behind the right knee 6 months later. She was referred to a general surgeon and an initial diagnosis of fibrosarcoma was made. However, at operation, a synovial popliteal cyst was found and removed. After this, synovial fluid began to leak from the lower end of the wound and during the next 2 months a fistulous track developed (Fig. 1).

Popliteal masses masquerading as popliteal cysts.
Two popliteal swellings, thought initially to be synovial cysts associated with arthritic knees, were found to be unrelated tumours of serious significance. In the presence of neurological signs or a large cyst in association with a noninflammed knee joint a disease other than a simple synovial cyst should be considered.
متن کاملArthroscopic Classification of Suprapatellar Plica and Medial Synovial Plica
In the previous arthroscopic studies, the ratio of presence and type of plica was somewhat different. We arthroscopically investigated and classified suprapatellar plica and medial synovial plica in a Japanese population. Subjects and Methods: The anatomy of suprapatellar plica and medial synovial plica was studied arthroscopically in 130 knees. Original diagnosis of patients included in this s...

However, colocutaneous fistulas secondary to anastomotic leaks are rare. We descr...

Popliteal cyst (Baker’s cyst) was first described by Adams in 1840, popularized by Baker in 1877, and was theorized as an enlarged gastrocnemiussemimembranosus bursa that communicated with the knee and trapped synovial fluid.1 Numerous bursa are located in the popliteal space between the knee ligaments, hamstring tendons, gastrocnemius muscle, and collateral ligaments. The two proposed etiologi...
متن کاملTibial mononeuropathy from a lower limb synovial cyst.
BACKGROUND Tibial mononeuropathy due to compression by a synovial cyst is uncommon with fewer than 10 cases reported in the literature. METHOD Case Study. RESULTS Tibial motor mononeuropathy with focal conduction block between the popliteal fossa and ankle was identified by electrophysiological testing. Magnetic resonance imaging and surgical exploration identified a synovial cyst compressi...
